![]() ![]() ![]() In 2005, the Museum completed a major renovation which included the installation of the RiverPlay exhibit, an outdoor rooftop exhibit focusing on simple machines, and Buzz Alley exploring the world of bees. The Science Theater relocated to the Museum’s main campus in 2010. In 2004, CDM acquired the NewsChannel9 Science Theater in Northgate Mall which has become a key component of its science education efforts. All prices are displayed per age group or reduced rate group. It quickly evolved into a multi-disciplinary, educational institution, utilizing interactive programs and exhibits to explore art, music, science and technology. ![]() CDM was incorporated in 1992 and opened in 1995. The board recommended a separate children’s museum be created as part of the revitalization of downtown. If visiting without accompanying children, guests must leave a valid photo ID at the Ticket Desk.The idea for CDM was born in 1989 as the board of the Hunter Museum of American Art evaluated the viability of developing a children’s wing. Children 16 years and older are considered adults in regards to admission and do not need to be accompanied by adults. Even with parental permission, the Museum does not have the legal right to detain anyone of any age in the building. Creative Discovery Museum is not responsible for supervising during this visit or for ensuring children remain in the building. Children 13 - 15 years old may visit the Museum without an adult only if an adult has come into the building and signed the permission slip at the ticket desk. ![]() If the person supervising is between the ages of 13 to 15, an adult must come inside and sign a permission slip at the ticket desk in the presence of a Museum staff member. Children 12 and under may be supervised by a person 13 years or older. Children under the age of 13 are not allowed inside the Museum without supervision. Unaccompanied children will not be granted admission to the Museum. This includes, but is not limited to, statements of intent to commit violence, statements that advocate for violence, violent calls to action, images of violence or images encouraging violence against a particular person or group based on something such as race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or political affiliation. Hate speech or images is defined as public speech that expresses hate or encourages violence towards a person or group based on something such as race, religion, sex, or sexual orientation. It may also include images of known terrorists, leaders, and organizations who have committed hate crimes or crimes against humanity. CDM will not allow visitors to wear clothing or viewable tattoos that include the following: - Obscene language or images - Hate speech or images. In an effort to create a safe environment for all visitors, CDM has developed a dress code policy. Through play, children gain mental, physical, and social skills necessary to succeed in their adult lives. Research has long proven that play is the work of childhood.
